Historical Allusion – Benito Hoover

In Chapter 4, we very briefly meet Benito Hoover.  This name is an allusion to both Mussolini and J. Edgar Hoover.  In groups of three, please divided up the following topics, and report back to the group tomorrow.

1. Benito Mussolini and fascism

2. J. Edgar Hoover, surveillance, and the abuse of power

3. Prohibition and moral panic

Remember that BNW was published in 1932, so your focus should be on events prior to publication. How does the allusion relate to the themes of BNW?
